Social media

Are there commercial opportunities for the UK drinks industry?

It is almost impossible to go to any form of media these days, be it press, radio, online or TV, where there isn’t some mention of one or more of the popular social media websites.

Consumers talk to their friends via Facebook, follow celebrities on Twitter or look for business contacts through LinkedIn.

Students and lazy journalists turn to Wikipedia as their instant reference point.

Viral adverts get emailed around global networks as we all seek that instant source of entertainment.

  • Is there a serious, and potentially commercially attractive, use for social media?
  • Which sites do British adult drinkers use on a regular basis?
  • How big are the main sites?

We asked over 2,100 British adults in our online June panel which social media sites they use on a regular basis (at least once a month).

The full analysis on social media can be found in WDR V4.
